The success of J2EE and JTA/JCA have lead to more and more complex integration scenarios: multiple vendor-specific connectors are plugged into application servers such as JBoss, and many of these connectors are based on open-source themselves. Unfortunately, many databases that we know of (both open-source and commercial) have failed to implement the necessary functionality for being truly enterprise-class. In this talk we present the most common mistakes that we have encountered, and show how JBoss can be used for truly robust integration. Intended audience: people who want to use JBoss for mission-critical integration projects (such as financial industries and telecom), and people who want to write robust XA-capable resource adapters for JBoss (such as RDBMS or JMS developers).

A Value-Based Caching Framework for Data Driven Distributed Systems

Implementing a value based caching system non-transparently in a data driven distributed application is straightforward. However, this demands repetitive implementation for each such application. The generality of the problem permits us to move the implementation into the middleware, with minimal support from the application and domain specific details. To bear out this idea, we choose the open-source J2EE application server - JBoss as the middleware supporting the distributed system and stateless session beans as the remote components performing the cacheable work.

A Rule-Based Engine Implementation on JBoss

This presentation describes a rule-based system built using the JESS rules engine deployed on a cluster of JBoss application servers. The evaluation process and the decision to use JESS as the foundation of the application is provided. The application is an automated underwriting engine for lending decisions. Project Telekom Parlay

The Parlay AS is a call handling platform, based on JBoss AS for enhancement of plain call switching with modern IT-infrastructure and services. The modern requirements of telecommunication services imply higher flexibility, higher value of service to customers and shorter time to market. The application provides a much higher degree of flexibility in service creation at a surprisingly low (relative) cost in performance and stability. It implements the Parlay/SOA standard, which provides an API to integrate intelligent network (IN) services with IT applications via a secure, measured, and billable interface (http://www.parlay.org). For now the project has implemented the CORBA based standard Parlay 3.3. The technological basis of the project is JBOSS / MySQL / Linux.

The presentation will describe a case study of usage of JBoss in developing an application solution for the management of PDH, SDH and ATM transport networks. The benefits of choosing a J2EE AS are introduced, including: Facilitates support for integration of legacy components of the NetViewer Suite, therefore allowing to migrate one component at a time, rather than abruptly discarding everything and restarting from scratch; Facilitates implementation of chosen data model (TMF 814); Facilitates implementation of the northbound interfaces SNMP, CORBA, OSSJ/XML/SOAP. Why JBoss is the preferred J2EE AS for this project: technical problems faced with other J2EE application servers are described, ranging from bugs to integration issues; the absence of faults and the very good performance of Jboss are described; the economic advantages.
